In my opinion, shilajit tablets are the missing link to your health and vitality. Everybody on planet earth should be taking at least 400mg of shilajit tablets daily.

Shilajit has been called “The Elixir of Life” and after having taken them for years, I now know why.

I’ve been taking shilajit in tablet form and every other form for over 5 years on a consistent basis. I can say that shilajit has changed my life. I hear this from everybody who has taken shilajit consistently. They all say the same thing.

“Shilajit has changed my life!”

So let’s get into it….

Let’s talk about the word, shilajit. It sounds weird doesn’t it? Some people spell it Shilajeet while other pronounce it Shilajot.

Shilajit is actually a Sanskrit word meaning “Conqueror of mountains and destroyer of weakness”. Sanskrit is a standardized dialect of Old Indo-Aryan, originating as Vedic Sanskrit as early as 1700-1200 BCE.

Let’s dive deeper.

What is Shilajit?

Shilajit is a resin formed from compressed plant and animal materials over thousands of years. You could say it’s a full spectrum blend of minerals (from plants AND animals).

Shilajit is like gold in Ayervedic medicine. It is loaded with elemental minerals and trace minerals that your body needs to function. The human body needs 92 minerals to function and the standard American diet has most people living on less than 30 minerals these days. Our soils are SO depleted that American farmers complained about this to congress in the 1930s.

Do you think anything was done about this? Nope. We continue monocropping and depleting our soils of vital minerals in the process, which explains why we’re so sick as a culture.

What’s awesome about shilajit tablets is they contain fulvic acid which helps your body recognize shilajit as a food. Fulvic acid itself has a ton of health benefits like improving immunity, increasing antioxidants and your digestive health.

Shilajit also helps with a ton of different functions in the body like digestion, detoxification , nervous system health and even endocrine health. It’s a powerful antioxidant  because it can donate electrons in a way that prevents become a free radical itself in that process. It can even pass through the blood brain barrier and because of its unique ability to do that (and generate ATP) it is known as the Elixir of Life.

Shilajit tablets for the win!

Shilajit Origins

Shilajit is a natural substance actually from the earth, that forms from the gradual decomposition of plant an animal material over centuries, mostly in mountainous regions.

When it oozes from the rocks in the earth in high altitude areas, it feels like  a sticky, tar-like resin. Shilajit is mostly hand harvested from the Himalayas, but it is also found in other mountain ranges like the Altai, Caucasus, and mountains in Tibet, Russia and Afghanistan. Its formation is believed to take place over long periods, where organic matter, trapped in rock layers, breaks down and mineralizes, creating a nutrient-rich compound known for its medicinal properties in traditional systems like Ayurveda.

Forms of Shilajit

I’ve tried many different forms of shilajit and much like the fermented soy that’s called natto, it tastes horrible. The good thing with natto is you can supplement it and not have to taste it. The flavor profile is so strong that when I used to eat the resin or paste I could sense the after taste in my mouth for hours. Yuk.

It can come as shilajit tablets (my current favorite), powder, resin/paste and even in capsules. It can also come in a liquid extract, although I have never tried that. I’ve tried the capsules, shilajit tablets, and resin or paste but never the liquid extract.

How I Take Shilajit

Shilajit seems to pair really well with coffee and it’s also a great way to start your day. Some people will take the Mitolife Panacea shilajit tablets and melt them into their coffee. I don’t like that because it’s too bitter for my taste. I just swallow down 2 shilajit tablets before I drink my coffee every morning.

I then take 2 more shilajit tablets at lunch and if I feel the need, I’ll take 2 more shilajit tablets with dinner. Most times I’ll just take 4 tablets per day.

Benefits of Shilajit

Testosterone

Here is a study about the effects of shilajit on testosterone levels below. If you have estrogen dominance or low free testosterone, shilajit tablets as Mitolife Panacea or your best option.

“In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical study, purified Shilajit was evaluated in healthy male volunteers aged 45-55. Participants were given a dose of 250 mg twice a day for 90 consecutive days. The study found that treatment with Shilajit significantly increased total testosterone, free testosterone, and dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEAS) compared to the placebo group. Gonadotropic hormones (LH and FSH) levels were well maintained.” – Study

Energy

I notice differences in my energy and my drive if I miss taking my 4 shilajit tablets a day. I notice it most around 2pm just after lunch. But when I’m on them regularly, I don’t notice that much of a difference because probably my body gets used to having all this great energy. When I forget to take them, the difference is noticeable.

“Research indicates that shilajit exhibits antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, adaptogenic, and immunomodulatory properties. Both animal and human studies suggest that shilajit enhances physical performance, alleviates fatigue, and boosts ATP production, which plays a key role in energy generation.” – Study

Digestion

When I take the shilajit tablets with my coffee every morning, my digestion is great and I poop at the same time every day and the stool is perfect in formation, even if I’ve changed my diet and eaten some things I don’t normally eat. Shilajit seems to keep me “regular”. 🙂

“In a study investigating the effects of Shilajit on aspirin-induced gastric lesions in rats, Shilajit treatment significantly reduced the size and number of gastric lesions compared to the control group. The study also showed a reduction in mucosal damage and the severity of edema and leukocyte infiltration, indicating Shilajit’s protective effects on the stomach.” – Study

Alzheimer’s disease

As of this writing I’m  young and don’t have Alzheimer’s disease so I can’t speak with experience on this one. I don’t know anybody with this condition either so I haven’t been able to test to see if they notice anything by taking Shilajit. But I’m happy to know that it helps and could be a powerful “preventative”.

“Research on Andean Shilajit (AnSh) has shown its neuroprotective potential in Alzheimer’s disease (AD). In vitro studies with hippocampal neurons demonstrated that AnSh fractions can inhibit tau self-aggregation, a key factor in AD progression, while also increasing the number and length of neuronal processes. This suggests AnSh as a promising alternative or coadjuvant for AD treatment.” – Study

Heart Health

As a 15 year old high school basketball player, I had to stop due to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Now that I’m educated about natural health and alternative ways to prevent heart disease, I can tell you that I feel amazing knowing that Shilajit is extremely helpful for my cardiovascular health.

“This study assessed the effects of mumie (shilajit) pre-treatment on cardiac performance in rats subjected to myocardial injury. The results demonstrated that mumie pre-treatment maintained cardiac function, reduced serum cardiac troponin I levels, and minimized the severity of cardiac lesions in injured animals, suggesting a cardioprotective effect against induced heart damage.” – Study

Diabetes

Controlling blood sugar levels and glucose spikes becomes more difficult as you age. Probably because your mitochondria produces less ATP (energy) to help with those processes. Taking Shilajit tablets is my secret weapon against diabetes as I age.

“In a study involving STZ-induced diabetic rats, shilajit supplementation significantly reduced hyperalgesia (sensitivity to pain) over six weeks. The findings suggest that shilajit may help manage diabetes-related complications, such as pain sensitivity, through its moderate antioxidant and hyperalgesia-suppressing activity.” – Study

Anti-Inflammation

It could be said that all disease is a process of oxidation and inflammation left unchecked in the human body. To take things like molecular hydrogen water, melatonin, methylene blue and dragons blood combined with Shilajit tablets to help lower the fire of inflammation is pretty powerful.

“In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, shilajit supplementation was shown to significantly reduce inflammation in postmenopausal women with osteopenia. The study found that shilajit decreased levels of the inflammation marker hsCRP, as well as oxidative stress, suggesting its potential as an anti-inflammatory agent.” – Study

Cholesterol

What most people don’t know about cholesterol is that it is a powerful antioxidant and if you lower it too low with medications (as is the case with Statins) you’re setting yourself up for cognitive decline as you get old. I’d much rather use and recommend a natural shilajit tablet that can help modulate those cholesterol levels naturally.

To read some books on this subject I recommend…

“In a study on high-fat diet-induced non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in rats, shilajit supplementation significantly reduced total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), and triglycerides (TG) levels while increasing high-density lipoprotein (HDL). These findings suggest that shilajit can help improve cholesterol levels and support liver health.” – Study

Memory and Cognition

As we decline, we bioaccumulate heavy metals that prevent complex 4 of our mitochondria cytochrome c 0xidase from generating adenosine triphosphate (ATP). When we cannot create energy as effectively, everything declines. If I had memory issues, cognitive decline that ran in my family I’d look into the benefits of methylene blue and take shilajit tablets regularly.

“In a study on rats, shilajit was found to enhance cognitive function by influencing the cholinergic system in the brain. Shilajit treatment reduced acetylcholinesterase activity in the basal forebrain, which is linked to improved cholinergic signaling, a key factor in memory and cognition. These findings suggest that shilajit may have memory-enhancing effects through its modulation of cholinergic pathways.” – Study

Bone Density

Bone density issues like osteoporosis and osteopenia are becoming more and more of a problem in today’s indoor blue light culture. This can be corrected and there are many things you can do to lay down new bone matrix, like taking shilajit tablets daily.

“In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, shilajit supplementation was shown to dose-dependently preserve bone mineral density (BMD) in postmenopausal women with osteopenia. The study found that shilajit reduced oxidative stress, inflammation, and bone turnover, leading to significant improvements in BMD compared to the placebo group.” – Study

Cancer

Cancer is the boogie man of today’s culture. It’s the ultimate loaded word that invokes fear into everybody. Fortunately there are things you can do to prevent cancer that your doctor has never heard about. There are many supplements you can take and lifestyle changes you can make to radically turn your health around. The regular consumption of shilajit tablets would be high on my list to improve my health (remember, shilajit cannot cure cancer, only medical doctors and chemotherapy can do that!)

“In an in vitro study, shilajit (Mumio) was found to selectively target urinary bladder cancer cells while sparing normal cells. Shilajit induced apoptosis and inhibited the cell cycle in cancer cells, making it a promising candidate for urinary bladder cancer treatment. The study suggests further investigation into shilajit’s potential as a chemotherapeutic agent.” – Study

Anemia

Shilajit has the amazing power to liberate iron from the iron recycling program in the reticuloendothelial system and regulate iron levels to mobilize and carry nutrients to tissues (without getting suck there because the enzyme ferroportin is inactive due to a lack of copper and vitamin A.).

“In a study examining the effects of shilajit on iron deficiency anemia (IDA) in rats, both a low iron diet and a bleeding technique were used to induce anemia. Shilajit at a dose of 500 mg/kg was found to significantly (p<0.01) increase hemoglobin (Hb), red blood cell (RBC) count, and packed cell volume (PCV) in both models. These results suggest that shilajit exhibits notable anti-anemic activity and may be effective as a dietary supplement for managing iron deficiency anemia.” – Study

Conclusion

As you can see I’m a huge fan of shilajit tablets more than the powder, resin or capsules. I mentioned that I take 4 tablets per day to get my trace minerals in my body. I want to remain healthy all the days of my life. It’s important to think about our health span more than our life span. Sure longevity is important but I want to have energy, a sex drive and lots of testosterone when I’m in my 90s and beyond. Taking shilajit on a regular basis is part of that strategy.

Questions:

  1. Do you take shilajit tablets? If not, why not?
  2. If so, what benefits have you noticed?
  3. Do you like the taste of the resin?
  4. How do you take shilajit?
