Robert Mueller from Barf World joined us today to talk about conventional dog food and what we can do to give our dog the gift of health.
People don’t think about the toxic ingredients that are in kibble and conventional dried or wet dog food. Here are a few just to wet your dog’s appetite:
- Dead diseased animals
- Roadkill
- Injured, diseased or dead zoo animals
- Animals from slaughter house floors unfit for consumption
- Garbage from restraunts, and grocery stores
- Other dogs and cats
- Bisphenol A & heavy metals in cans
This doesn’t include ingredients that your dog should not be eating like corn, wheat and soy in very high amounts. Dogs were never meant to consume corn, soy or wheat. That’s not a part of their genetic ancestry.
Perhaps every now and then they would consume a root vegetable or something of that nature but not high amounts of foods loaded with carbohydrates that cause them to get cancer and diabetes.
With that said, a dog would also hunt and kill its prey and eat the entire thing. They’d eat the organ meats and entrails that are loaded with pre-digested plants along with the bone and muscle meat of the animal they killed. By eating the entire animal they would get the perfect pH balance of acid vs alkaline.
For those that are unaware having a diet that is either too acidic or too alkaline can be a real health problem for all mammals, not just dogs.
We also talked about shedding, skin issues, energy levels and where the meat is sourced from.
Robert Mueller talks about how the BARF World diet is high in enzymes and a perfect acid alkaline balance containing not just organ meats but bone as well which are very alkaline.
