The simple act of standing on the earth barefoot might be the solution to ALL your health challenges.

Bold statement, I know.

My health philosophy is grounded (not pun intended) in the notion that the further we disconnect ourselves from nature, the sicker we become.

And by nature I mean, fresh air, sunshine, grounding pure water, bathing in bodies of water etc.

I’ll get more into that concept later.

In this article I’m going to talk a bit about grounding in general but more specifically looking at earthing grounding bed sheets and how they may be able to help you restore your health.

But first…

Grounding or “earthing” as some people call it has been a daily part of my wellness routine since I first heard about it in 2008.

Then in 2010 I read the book simply called Earthing which really opened my eyes up to the incredible benefits of connecting to nature.

I’m more of a science guy. I don’t put all my trust into studies but I like that they’re done and the fact that they’re done can say a lot.

On the other hand I’m not a “woo woo” guy either where everything is just heresay and anecdotal stories about healing.

I like the fact that people share stories and I also like that scientific studies are done. I like both but don’t rely on both.

If for example multiple people I trust tell me that they’ve used earthing grounding bed sheets to lower the pain in their bodies that peaks my interest.

Then if you have multiple peer reviewed, double blind, placebo controlled studies (with no financial affiliation to anybody) about the health benefits of earthing, now you have to sources of information that will normally cause me to look into it.

This is what you have in the case of earthing.

But instead of having a few anectotal stories of people healing with grounding, you have thousands of  success stories. And instead of having a few studies about how healthy grounding is, you have hundreds (which I’ll link to a few in this article).

The catch is to try to mimic standing barefoot on the earth inside your house.

How can we do this?

Fortunately this is where grounding pads come in and earthing grounding bed sheets as well. What I like more about the earthing grounding bed sheets is that you’re “grounded” for roughly eight hours, which is incredible if you really think about it.

Most people live their entire lives without even a minute of grounding for a whole day.

If you put an earthing grounding bed sheet on your mattress, you can receive free electrons into your body for 8 hours per day.

That’s 2,920 hours per year.

Or you could say that’s 121 – full 24 hour days per year connected to the healing properties of “mother earth”.

Pretty amazing right?

So let’s dive in a bit…

What Is Grounding?

Grounding or earthing is simply the idea of touching the surface of the earth with your bare skin. There are different ways of doing this but the idea is coming into direct contact with the earth with your skin.

Ideally, it’s walking barefoot on grass, sand, stone, rock, dirt or even mud.

Your feet have more receptors to receive free electrons than any other area of your body.

It’s almost as if God designed us to walk barefoot on the earth.

Imagine that?

You can also touch a tree with your hands or even lean against it, if your bare skin is coming into contact with the bark of that tree.

An even better scenario to walking barefoot is walking barefoot on an area of the earth that’s more remote (away from powerlines, neighborhoods and the electrical grid if possible) and moist. We know that moisture conducts electricity so walking on the sand at the beach near the shore is arguably the best place to ground.

Another ideal place to ground is walking near a creek or river where the earth is moist and conductive.

Why Does Grounding Work?

Grounding “works” (by works I mean lower inflammation) because it gives your body free electrons. When you think about it, we’re more than physical beings. We are beings of light and our body runs on electricity. We are much more electric than we are mechanical.

Here’s what Dr. Fritz Albert-Popp has to say about our body in relation to light.

“We know today that man, essentially, is a being of light. And the modern science of photobiology … is presently proving this. In terms of healing, the implications are immense. We now know, for example, that quanta of light can initiate, or arrest, cascade-like reactions in the cells, and that genetic cellular damage can be virtually repaired, within hours, by faint beams of light. We are still on the threshold of fully understanding the complex relationship between light and life, but we can now say emphatically, that the function of our entire metabolism in dependent on light.”

We now know that the earth emits free electrons. This was well documented in a study by biophysicist James Oschman.

The earth gets this energy from solar radiation in the form of UVA, UVB, UVC and Infrared frequencies hitting the surface of the earth. The also earth receives about 1.4 billion lightning strikes per year. That comes to roughly 2,663 lightning strikes to the earth every minute.

Where does all that energy and electricity go?

The earth stores it so we can heal and live pain free.

A single bolt of lightning carries a relatively large amount of energy (approximately 7 gigajoules or about the energy stored in 38 Imperial gallons or 172 litres of gasoline).

That is just how much energy is in one lightning bolt, let alone 1.4 billion of them. The earth stores this free energy and it’s available to us by either walking barefoot on its surface or sleeping on an earthing grounding bed sheet.

What do we do with all that energy God is providing for us?

We put on sunglasses, apply sunscreen and wear rubber soled shoes so that we can get sick.

I don’t mean to sound harsh but that’s essentially what we’re doing by saying “no” to everything God provides for us through nature.

But…

What’s so cool is that the earth harbors all this energy and it is equally dispersed from its surface all day every day.

It’s like God’s gift to you.

Health Ramifications Of Not Grounding

In today’s modern “western culture” we spend roughly 90% of our time indoors, and our health is suffering as a result. Very little time is spent outdoors grounded to the earth. Look at all the disease people are living with nowadays.

How often do you see a fit 80yr old that’s happy, healthy and full of energy?

If they are that way, most likely they spend a heck of a lot of time outdoors.

Most people 80 or older spend their lives going to doctors and taking multiple medications for their poor health. They’re in bed most of the day taking naps and are depressed and live very sad lives.

That’s not how I want to be when I get to be that age.

I want to have energy, I want to be open minded, full of hope and inspiration. I want to be excited about my future. In order to be filled with optimism and life, I’m going to need to increase the time I spend connected to the earth as I age.

So let’s look at how to do that…

How To Ground More

Think of “not grounding” being similar to flying in an airplane your whole life or being in space. The further our body is from the surface of the earth the more electrons we lose. When we lose electrons we require more antioxidants in order to donate lost electrons.

Essentially antioxidants are electron donors.

Many things can cause us to lose electrons like relationship stress, work stress, family stress, financial stress, health stress along with living under blue light, eating an inflammatory diet and a million other things cause us to lose electrons.

Our modern world seems to be carefully designed in order for us to get sick and die early.

Yes you can fix all of those external stressors I mentioned above while at the same time adding in the highest antioxidant foods like…

I highly recommend consuming a lot of antioxidant type foods while at the same time eliminating life related stressors.

Let’s go on a thought experiment for a moment.

We know it’s impossible to eliminate all stress. But let’s say by making changes to your life, you can eliminate 60% of those stressors.

Chalk that up for a win because that’s amazing.

So let’s say the other 40% you adopt lifestyle habits that help you deal with it better. Maybe you embark on a mediation practice or a Qigong practice. Maybe you start doing some personal development work and read books like Loving What Is and The Four Agreements.

Now you still have the 40% of those stressors but you have tools to help you deal with them without causing oxidative damage to your tissues.

Now maybe you get a food allergy test and eliminate foods you’re allergic to and add in a couple key antioxidant supplements like dragon’s blood, methylene blue and melatonin.

At this point you’ve made some easy lifestyle changes, added a few supplements in and you’re probably ready to start watching the sunrise every morning and being outside grounded to the earth even more.

This will skyrocket your health.

Free electrons from the earth through earthing work hand in hand with antioxidants. They’re a match made in heaven.

But there’s only so much time you  can spend outside barefoot. Your kind of at the mercy of the elements. What if it’s raining, or there’s a snow storm? What if it’s too cold outside to stand on the grass with your bare feet?

This is where earthing grounding bed sheets come in to save the day.

Earth Grounding Bed Sheets

The idea behind earthing grounding bedsheets is to allow your body to receive free electrons from the earth all night long.

Recovering from an injury and can’t be outside all day? Want to improve your sleep? How about waking up every morning not only feeling refreshed from having had more sleep cycles (REM, nREM, Deep Sleep etc) but having way less pain because you’ve been consuming high antioxidant foods while getting free electrons from the earth all night.

Most earthing grounding sheets allow you to plug it into the 3rd prong in your electrical outlets or they’ll provide a silver rod that you can run out your window. All you have to to is pop the screen out and then run the wire that’s attached to the grounding rod directly into the dirt outside your bedroom window.

If you’re on the second floor it’s even more important to ground to the earth because the higher your body is off the surface of the earth, the more static electricity and voltage you’re going to store. This means you’re pulling electrons off the molecules in your body. When electrons are lost, this creates a cascade effect of oxidation and inflammation.

Rust.

In other words that means rapid aging.

Most earthing grounding bed sheets are made with silver threading all throughout the sheet. These silver threads all line up in a grid pattern and are connected not just to each other but also to the plug in the corner of the sheet where that silver threading connects to the silver wire that’s stuck in the ground outside.

Silver conducts electricity and has the capacity to carry electrons. The electrons that are naturally in the earth when they come in contact with the silver rod are carried via the wire to your bedsheet.

Once they get there those free electrons travel wherever the silver threading is (which is in square patterns from the head of the sheet all the way to your feet).

I like to sleep without a shirt on and with basketball shorts. As a result my legs from my knees to my toes are in direct contact with the silver threads. My upper body since I’m not wearing a shirt is in direct contact with the silver threading.

This means free electrons coming from the earth are being given to me in my earthing grounding bed sheet all night long.

Conclusion

As you can see I’m very much in favor of grounding in general during the day as well as at night using earth grounded bed sheets. In fact in today’s stressed culture, I think it’s imperative for your health. There are nuances and things to think about when using your grounded bed sheets. For example if there’s a storm, you may want to avoid using them in case lightning strikes the ground by your house and that electrical voltage travels through the ground into your grounded bed sheets.

In general I’m a big fan of grounding in general to alleviate oxidative stress and lower inflammation throughout the body. If you were to increase your antioxidants for 30 days while sleeping grounded, you will notice major shifts in your sleep patterns and overall health.
