Feel Good Project day 31
OR, in my case-DON’T eat like you mean it.
FAST like you mean it.
This photo was taken in the gutter outside our house when I walked Maggie this morning. Trash has been catching my eye lately and speaking to me:)
It seriously made me think as I read that squashed cup-why are we seriously NOT eating or treating our bodies like we DO mean it? I know it’s just a fast food chain catchy slogan-but seriously. WHY are we not treating our bodies better with what we are putting into our systems?
I can attest to being an active participator in my health decline by what I was putting into my body all the years past-the very reason that I am writing this blog.
Today was day 1 of a pure bone broth and juice fast. Committed to 3 full days, however if I feel my body wants to go a bit longer, I will reassess after day 3.
So, this is how it went so far…
Woke up at 6am naturally, feeling very rested and relaxed. Wasn’t overly hungry which I was curious to see as I hadn’t had anything to eat since about 4pm yesterday afternoon-just bone broth and juice to ease into this cleanse.
I have to say, THAT has been the way to go! Easing my way into this the night before has made ALL the difference. I have done at least three juice fasts in the past two years, and two had me feeling horrible for the first at least two days before I started to feel great. I chalk this up to the fact that I was eating diets of heavy meats and dense foods all the way up to the night before starting a fast the next day.
As anyone with juicing knowledge will tell you-NOT the way to go.
With those past juice fasts, feeling a bit bad after the initial discomfort was not a completely bad thing in and of itself, as I was in a detoxing situation and all, so made sense to feel like crap for the first bit.
However, on the most recent juice fast I attempted at the beginning of the year, I had to stop on day two, as my head felt like it was in a vice and I felt nauseous most of the time and thought I would faint.
NOT worth it to me, as with past cleanses I didn’t have such violent symptoms and I knew this was actually not doing my body any good.
SO grateful I have taken the time the past couple of years to LISTEN to myself.
THIS fast I feel full of energy which was not true of a plain juice fast for me until around day 3 or 4. What I have been careful of during today is to drink most all the day long. I haven’t let more than two hours go by in between rotating juice and broth.
The broth is where the magic seems to be for me this time around. It’s filling, soothing, lovely to sip on, healing and warm to my vata ayurveda body type.
It has been the most excellent first day of a liquid fast I have ever experienced. Very encouraging.
Interesting aspects of this day 1 of fasting: my teeth have been hurting since I had my first bowl of warm bone broth this morning. Aching like they did after I tried those crest whitening strips back in the day…left me sensitive and uncomfortable. That was WAY worse than this feeling though-this is a tad more subtle but a definite direct effect.
Asked Mr Atom Bergstrom his opinion on this after we went off the air today with our Extreme Health Radio interview, and he indeed agreed that this can be a common detox sign. Apparently a few different liquids can cause this. Of all the things! Bone broth-who knew?
Interested to see if this will subside by the morning.
Also, a metallic taste has been present all day, which I can say I have only tasted a few other times, all of which have been during detoxes of sorts as well. Interesting.
For two very brief periods through the day I experienced slight cramping in my liver/pancreas/digestive tract. Faded as I drank more liquid.
Probably too much information-but have not gone to the bathroom today other than to pee (which is actually surprising that I didn’t have to go more, as I drank SO much liquid and water usually passes right through my system!)
I believe my body is doing it’s thing and recalibrating just the way it should.
If I had to guess, I feel about 2 or 3 pounds lighter, not sugared out in any way, clear headed and clean. GOOD day. Almost feeling like my old ‘normal’ before I ever had any health challenges at all. I am THANKFUL and can’t wait to see where this goes.
FEEL GOOD MOMENT OF THE DAY: Jumping in the sauna early in the morning when I woke up to start my day off right. The sun was just coming up when I entered and filled the room with soft golden light. It has been cloudy and rainy all day, but that sun broke through just for me and warmed my spirit. Beautiful and peaceful day, with a happy gut. 🙂
