These 5 nattokinase benefits will change your life.

20 million people died from heart attacks in 2021, making it the leading cause of death.

6.6 million people died of strokes in 2020 and it could go as high as 10 million per year by 2050.

What if one supplement could help “eliminate” both of these “dis-eases?”.

When I was a 100% raw food vegan from 2003 to 2010, I kept hearing about enzyme therapy and how enzymes can be powerful for every aspect of our health. Then I heard about all of these amazing nattokinase benefits that blew my mind.

So I’ve been taking nattokinase as a supplement for almost 20 years now. I’ve tried many different brands and I’ve tried the food its derived from as well (not tasty at all).

What is Nattokinase?

Before we talk about what nattokinase is first let’s talk about what enzymes are. Think of your body like a construction site. You have your tools, workers, materials and overall environment. Think of enzymes as the construction workers. You can have all the best tools in the world but with no workers, nothing gets done. You can have the best building materials but workers are needed to carry out the actual building.

Without enzymes minerals cannot work. The mineral magnesium for example is required for 3,751 functions of our metabolism to work. If there are no enzymes, magnesium doesn’t work. This is discussed in the book Enzyme Nutrition very effectively.

There are many types of enzymes like…

  1. Digestive enzymes (amylase, protease, lipase)
  2. Proteolytic enzymes
  3. Metabolic enzymes

Then there are enzymes like cytochrome P450 which are found in all living things in the earth.

Nattokinase is considered to be a fibrinolytic enzyme that should be taken away from food that helps break down fibrin (the fibers that grow in the body due to inflammation).

Nattokinase is the enzyme that’s derived from natto which is a traditional ferment type of soy from traditional Japanese cuisine. It tastes absolutely terrible and the consistency is sticky and gooey. It’s gross.

Supplement nattokinase it’s just easier.

Clot-Busting Benefits

The natural remedy for blood clots is nattokinase. This is something that has not been discussed since what happened in 2019 worldwide. People are dying without the knowledge that you can take natural supplements that can help.

Nattokinase has the ability to break up fibrin with it’s enzymatic activity. Fibrin is the building blocks of blood clots. It also prevents fibrin from clumping and clustering to build new clots. I like taking a good amount of nattokinase when I’m flying to prevent blood clots.

There are other enzymes that can be used for blood clots like streptokinase and urokinase but in order for them to be effective, they have to be given by IV. The benefit of nattokinase is that you can simply supplement it orally.

Nae-Cherng Yang, PhD, of the Chungchou Institute of Technology, Taiwan, and colleagues divided 45 subjects into three groups: those with cardiovascular disease, those undergoing kidney dialysis, and those who were healthy. All of the subjects took two 400-mg capsules of nattokinase after dinner each day for two months.

Yang and colleagues tracked the subjects’ blood levels of three clotting factors, fibrinogen, factor VII, and factor VIII. Fibrinogen is a major determinant of whole blood and plasma thickness, and high fibrinogen levels are strongly related to the risk of heart attack. Factors VII and VIII are also related to an increased risk of heart attack. By the end of the two-month study, the participants had impressive reductions in all three clotting factors. Fibrinogen levels decreased by 7 to 10 percent, factor VII declined by 7 to 14 percent, and factor VIII decreased by 17 to 19 percent.

These results support our hypothesis that oral administration of nattokinase would have a beneficial action on risk factors associated with cardiovascular disease,” wrote the researchers.

Improved Fibrinolytic Activity

There was an interesting study where people who consumed approximately seven ounces of natto or took 1300 milligrams of nattokinase showed significantly improved serum fibrinolytic activity. This enhanced enzymatic activity lasted for around eight to twelve hours.

In a single case, Professor Sumi was able to demonstrate complete clearing of a clot that had blocked off nearly all blood flow to an eye, causing blindness. With use of nattokinase, the clot was cleared, and vision was restored.

I consider nattokinase to be one of the most important supplements human beings could take. I take it daily and plan to for the rest of my life.

I don’t want to become one of the statistics I referenced at the beginning of this article.

Stroke Prevention

It seems like more and more people are having strokes these days. Strokes are heart attacks of the brain. Some people call strokes “brain attacks”. This happens when there’s blood clot in a blood vessel going to the brain this is the most common type of stroke called ischemic stroke.

Or a stroke could happen when the blood vessels itself bursts normally this is called a hemorrhagic stroke. These are sometimes caused by a ruptured aneurysm, arteriovenous malformation (AVM), or head trauma.

Nattokinase has the unique ability to break down fibrin which causes the clots to form and block the blood vessels going to the brain. It also has a unique ability to prevent blood cell aggregation which helps lower the viscosity (thickness) of blood allowing for greater circulation of oxygen and nutrients.

Post-Surgery Benefits

In my surgery recovery protocol I lay out specific supplements along with a “to do list” 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after surgery. Nattokinase is on the list for post surgery recovery. The main reason as we’ve discussed is to prevent blood clot formation but also to help oxygenate the blood and increasing circulation.

Nattokinase also has the unique ability to lower inflammation all throughout the body in a very unique and powerful way.

A retired research biochemist shared his experience with nattokinase following coronary bypass surgery. He reported that nattokinase not only provided a new level of safety for bypass patients but also directly benefited other vascular functions. He noted that nattokinase might have potential far beyond its original intent.

Here’s his direct quote…

Clot formation is a fact of life following heart bypass surgery. The mortality statistics are grim, the choice of maintenance medications prescribed for bypass patients are dangerous, and in many cases, ineffective as well. The current mainstream medical treatment status following heart surgery can be summarized as unsatisfactory… Like all bypass patients, I too have random episodes of high blood pressure, accompanied by mild angina, that is caused by blood clots. The last time this happened, instead of simply waiting for the blood clot to dissolve, I decided to take nattokinase capsules at the recommended dosage. The results were, in my book anyway, nothing short of sensational…Nattokinase may not only provide a new level of safety for bypass patients, but may also directly benefit other vascular functions. My former biochemical research and development experience indicates nattokinase may well be a product with potential far beyond its original intent. It is important to remember nattokinase is not simply another medication. It is a unique class of medication that appears to have potential for successfully treating a wide variety of medical conditions.

Cardiovascular Health

If you have heart disease, or have any cardiovascular issues whatsoever, you definitely need to be taking nattokinase for all of its heart healthy benefits. I’m not a cardiologist or a doctor of any kind and I’m not giving medical advice. I can tell you what I do.

I was diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy when I was 15 years old. I can tell you I take nattokinase daily as a preventative.

Here are some really interesting studies with quotes below…

“The effect of nattokinase in primary prevention of cardiovascular disease shows promising results, especially in lowering LDL-C levels, which are a significant risk factor for heart disease.”Acta Cardiologica Sinica, 2009.

“Nattokinase has been shown to dissolve thrombus associated with cardiac and cerebral infarction, highlighting its potential to aid in the prevention of heart attacks and strokes.”R.E. Holsworth Jr, 2002.

“Nattokinase can prevent the formation of local thrombus or clots in a coronary artery, potentially reducing the risk of heart attacks.”A Potent ST Agent, 2002.

“Nattokinase, a potent blood-clot dissolving protein, has been extensively studied for its use in preventing cardiovascular diseases, including heart attacks and stroke.”Y. Weng, J. Yao, S. Sparks, KY Wang, 2017.

Other Benefits of Nattokinase

The other benefits of nattokinase is that it can be supplemented. The fermented natto cheese is so horrible tasting, I could never eat it. It’s nice to be able to just pop a supplement and get all the same benefits.

I also like it because it’s relatively cheap for  what it does in the body. The cost of suffering a stroke or heart attack is probably in the hundreds of thousands. Comparatively nattokinase costs pennies to having either of those health conditions.

It’s easy to take and one bottle lasts quite a long time.

I also love that you can take nattokinase no matter what diet you’re following or what your nutritional philosophies are. You could be vegan, raw vegan, vegetarian, paleo, keto or carnivore. The trick is to take them on an empty stomach.

I like to take 3 before bed (I keep them on my nightstand) and 3 immediately upon waking up in the morning when I drink my 32 ounces of filtered water.

Conclusion

I only referenced 5 nattokinase benefits in this article. But you could go onto PubMed or Science Direct and read about dozens of other nattokinase benefits that will blow your mind. How could one supplement be so beneficial to your health?

I plan on taking nattokinase for the rest of my life.

Questions:

  1. Do you take nattokinase?
  2. If so, have you noticed health benefits?
  3. If not, why not?
