I will introduce our guest, who is Nadine Artemis, in just a minute. I wanted to tell you about our upcoming show schedule. We have Ramiel Nagel on Monday. He wrote a book called Cure Tooth Decay. If your dentist is asking you to get a root canal or get cavities filled and all that kind of stuff, just know that stuff like that can be healed naturally through diet. I would highly encourage you to listen to that show. We also have Dr. David Steenblock, who is out of Orange County, California, my neck of the woods. He is doing a lot of great work with ozonating the blood, stem cell therapy and all kinds of great things. I highly recommend you listen to that show too, as well as Marty Gallagher next week, who will be talking about fitness and exercise. That should be a lot of fun.
I wanted to introduce our guest today. I’m really excited about having Nadine Artemis on. I could read her whole bio, but that just gets boring. So, needless to say, she runs livinglibations.com. She is an awesome lady and has done a lot of great work in the health field, and all of that.
Thanks Nadine, for being on today.
NADINE: Thank you, I’m really excited to be here.
JUSTIN: Great. Rumor has it that you’re out in Ontario somewhere.
NADINE: Deep in the woods in Ontario.
JUSTIN: I’ve heard about your spread out there, it’s pretty amazing.
NADINE: Yes, it is amazing. We moved out here about six years ago and it was definitely a dream of Ron and I, my partner. When we met, we just really focused on doing all that we could to move out of the city. We looked for the perfect piece of land for two years and we just can’t believe what we found. We wanted something that was over 100 acres and had water. We found 177 acres, with our private little lake. There are no boats and nobody has access to it.
JUSTIN: That is so cool. So, you moved there six years ago. Where were you before that?
NADINE: In Toronto. Going camping and everything else, I can’t even go camping again, I just need my bed.
JUSTIN: That’s so great. On your website, livinglibations.com, you’ve got all these awesome videos where you’re out on the deck, it looks like on a lake. Oh man, it looks amazing. You said you had a couple of springs on your property.
NADINE: Yes, the lake itself is actually spring fed. There are three springs in the lake, so the water is really beautiful, to swim in of course. There has never been any motorboats on it. We also have, so far we’ve found two on our land, and what’s really neat about the area we live in, there’s also two in the town. So, a lot of people in the community drink spring water, which is awesome.
JUSTIN: That is so amazing. Right now, my wife and I drive out to Lake Hemet. That takes us about a couple of hours for us to go and get the spring water, probably more than that, I think.
NADINE: Yeah, when we first got here, I mean even to just have a bath and turn on the tap and have a bath in wild water, we felt like the luckiest people on the planet.
JUSTIN: Do you pipe this spring water into your house. I mean, how do you get it from the spring to your place?
NADINE: We just actually fill up. We are still filling up, but we’re working with some plumbers who know what they’re doing, and in the next year or so, we hope to pipe that in, at least for drinking.
JUSTIN: Wow, golly, I saw those videos with David Wolfe, where he pipes in his spring water to his faucet. How cool is that, you know?
NADINE: It’s awesome.
JUSTIN: So, when you first moved there, did you have the business, Living Libations, or is that something you started after you moved to where you’re at now?
NADINE: This is something that I’ve been doing for 20 years, and then when I met Ron, we just sort of reformulated it, because it was something I had been doing on my own. I had gone into mini retirement just before I met him, just to like relax for a year and get lots of fresh ideas. I’ve been formulating skin care products since I was 18 years old, and then Ron and I have been doing like the incarnation of Living Libations for about 10 or 11 years. So, it’s deep, deep in our beings, that’s for sure.
JUSTIN: This is just sort of a passion of yours and has been for many, many years.
NADINE: We had a lot of clients in Toronto and people were really familiar with our work. A lot of clients internationally too, but the fun thing about doing your own business, is that we also knew that we would be able to move to the woods. And it actually gives us more space, on another level, to stock more raw materials and do all that kind of thing. You know, really love and be inspired where we work, because the land really holds us and it nurtures me, because we work very hard. We’re really focused. For the land just nurtures us to create more and do better, because it’s fulfilling us all the time.
JUSTIN: Do you do a lot of the survival stuff, like you stock up on things, because you have the land and all that.
NADINE: We all go into that mindset totally, as we like to be prepared as there will be electrical outages and things like that. Also, just because you have space, and because we’re not really into doing errands. The villages nearby is lovely, but not set up with health food stores and everything just yet, although Rock Cafe is open. So we just really think ahead and we kind of run the household like we would a business really. In every house, you have an inventory, like things going in and things going out. So, we do root cellaring and we built a cold storage, we really plan ahead. We actually do wholesale of our groceries with our friends and people who work with us, so that whoever supplies us, we don’t want any of those big trucks come up here. We have all the amazing wild foods and organic produce.
JUSTIN: That is so cool. Do you guys do sauerkraut in the winter and all of that?
NADINE: Yes, we eat sauerkraut all year round and we do a lot of mushroom picking and wild foraging and we have a tea that we make every day, chaga and different herbs from the land. That’s always rotating with sort of what’s in season. Chaga is always in season, really.
JUSTIN: Chaga, I’ve heard Daniel Vitalis talk a lot about that. What are the magical qualities of chaga?
NADINE: This to me tells a lot. You can make a big pot of it and you can leave that pot out on the stove for over a week and it doesn’t go off. Normally, when you mix something with water, it has a short shelf life. I think that alone, illustrates it’s tenacity. David Wolf has a new book out, he just launched it last month and it’s all on chaga. It is really supportive for immune, it’s a general tonic, it’s just great. It’s like a general tonic, it’s like a fruiting body from a tree, from a birch tree, and it’s great for the immune system.
JUSTIN: I’ve been doing reishi lately, but I’m not as lucky as you, where I can go out and pick chaga. That is just so amazing. I get mine from Mountain Rose Herbs, but to be able to go out in the forest and pick your chaga and reishi must be amazing, I think
NADINE: Yes, it’s really fun. It just connects you. And, of course, you know, I feel like we’ve got a whole lifetime here and every years there’s so much more depth to go into. And the herbs and the plants and the landscape, is just a lifetime of fun to be had out there.
JUSTIN: What is your current diet? Have you been evolving your diet over the years, or have you been sticking with any one thing for a while? What’s your current diet?
NADINE: When I was 18, there was sort of this one moment, it was a short week that I just understood a lot the way the supermarket was constructed and the way body care products were created and that’s why when I came to really formulate my own products, as well as make my own food. Since I was 18, I have not eaten any processed food and have only ever eaten organic. At that time, I was vegan, and was vegan for a long time, many, many years. That served me well on a lot of levels, because I was eating organic and I wasn’t eating any processed food. I definitely had different phases, you know the macrobiotic phases.Did full raw for like six years. Since then though, a few years ago, really deeply going into oral care research, I have a book called ‘Successful Self Dentistry, How to Ignore the Dentist, Without Ignoring Your Teeth’. I really looked into the work of Dr. Weston Price, Dr. Melvin Page and Dr. Hal Huggins. So, doing that and having been pregnant and birthed and breast fed, my child, I just felt like my body needed more after being vegan for so long. I was really looking at what the teeth need and the teeth need fat soluble vitamins, vitamins-A, D3 and K2. I mean, if we can summarize it in such a simple way, but they really need the fat solubles. Those are really only found in animal products, so that was really interesting for me. And, I didn’t want to just go to, then i sort of went into the vegetarian thing, with eating greens and stuff again. I just don’t find them that exciting. You can’t have a full diet just based on phytic acid greens, you know what I mean? It would seem a but unbalanced that way.
So, we do eat raw dairy, raw kefir and wild game. We’re not so into fish, because of the mercury. Then, everything else is pretty much raw where we’re at now. It really came out of that physical thing, like birthing and feeding another being and seeing what they need. What I could see with the bones and the bones in the teeth, that just spoke deeply to my being. When I first became vegan too, there was no, nobody should be eating factory farmed anything. I wasn’t aware of certain grass fed and wild options it seemed like I just had to say ‘no’ to that whole world for a while. And of course, quality is very important when you’re eating animal products, that there are the highest, highest quality. Otherwise, you’re not getting what you need from them.
JUSTIN: Yes, it’s critical. Maybe more critical with animal products, do you think? Did you notice any deficiencies in yourself, or did you just intuitively change your diet, knowing that for the long haul, you may need some of these nutrients, like K2 and things like that?
NADINE: Yeah, I didn’t have a lot of blood work done. You have some done with the mid-wife, you know the Bs and the iron, they were kind of low-normal, and I haven’t had them checked since, so maybe they are back up. I feel like that I lost a few things, but I definitely gained a lot of things, by doing that for a while. I feel it’s been an interesting shift, because I really was a vegan for so long, and I find that people that have been that long, they definitely after 15 years, some people start to question it. I definitely was in there, so I really understand where people are coming from. I totally get not eating meat on a lot of levels. It still makes a lot of sense to me, on a lot of levels, you know.
JUSTIN: Yes, likewise.
NADINE: So, it’s an interesting process.
JUSTIN: Yes, it’s tough when you want to have some meat like that, but you have ethical concerns and I am right there with you. For not as long as you, but I did 100% raw vegan thing for seven years and now I’m doing kind of the same diet you’re doing. Some kefirs, some milk kefirs and raw eggs and things like that. I feel great, but it’s funny, after seven years of doing the raw vegan thing, I essentially feel the same as I did then. I just feel really good.
I was looking at, for myself, what’s going to happen in 20-30 years if I take out a whole food group essentially, you know. What’s going to happen after 20-30 years, eating that way. And that’s kind of my motivation at least, you know.
NADINE: For sure, and then really just see from birth to death has been a vegan and that deficiencies do show up. There are some great things about the vegan diet as well, but I think we can get a lot of grain dependencies, especially if we’re not raw, and I just really get where people are coming from.
JUSTIN: My wife and I went to the women’s wellness conference about a year ago. I think it was the very first one and your speech was really, really cool. Are you speaking there again this year?
NADINE: Yes, I am and that will be really fun. Something that is also coming up for us is that you’re going to be interviewing Ramiel Nagel next week. I just interviewed him myself, which was really fun, as I hadn’t really interviewed anybody before. We have, this is like the first time I have ever mentioned this, at the end of November we will be conducting holding, whatever you call it, a tooth summit.
JUSTIN: Oh, really.
NADINE: Yes, it’s going to be awesome. It’s the optimal oral and tooth health summit and it will be about 10 days of speakers. I’ve been interviewing Dr. Hal Huggins, Dr. Stuart Nannally and Dr. Lina Garcia (she is Dr. Mercola’s dentist)and it’s just awesome. It’s going to be really good as I really wanted to go in-depth on a lot of issues.
JUSTIN: That’s so great. You know, when people start realizing that teeth are so much more than what we think. I never took care of my teeth, even when I was doing the raw vegan thing, because you know, it’s a hassle, you have to brush your teeth and you have to do all these things, you know. And when you’re younger, you don’t think about your teeth and how they relate to disease, but once I started learning from David Wolfe and others, how the teeth really effect every organ in the body, as you know. Now I treat my teeth like gold, you know, it’s like a 180 degree shift.
NADINE: Yeah, it’s amazing and what they are too, if there is an imbalance in the mouth, things with your gums and your teeth, I mean that is reflecting, letting you know. If it’s the gums there’s issues with tissues, and if it’s the teeth, then that’s telling you what the condition your bones are in. So, our teeth are deeply, deeply systemically related to our entire body and I know if everybody has been raised the the North American culture, we do feel a bit separate from our teeth. It’s just the way we were raised. By going to the dentist there has been this whole protocol that has been set up, that the teeth are a bit separate from the body, and that they’re not alive. The teeth are completely capable of regenerating, regenerating enamel, the gums can regenerate. I’m not saying that you can grow an entirely new tooth, but you can halt decay, you can heal cavities and you can heal the gum tissue so that its is alive and part of the body.
JUSTIN: I was wondering if they are able to grow like a little kind of root pulp of a tooth and maybe possibly grow teeth in the future. Do you think it’s possible that they’ll be able to regrow an entire tooth from a pulp?
NADINE: What’s going on with regrowing teeth is stem cells. This is an awesome area of research and Dr. Stuart Nannally thinks that there will be the capability of actually growing a whole new tooth in about five years.
JUSTIN: Wow, I’ve been to him and he’s an amazing guy, but I haven’t heard him say that. That’s crazy.
NADINE: Yes, isn’t that awesome.
JUSTIN: So that would negate the need for chromium implants and things like that?
NADINE: Exactly, and if you are having a tooth extracted, you could send that to a stem cell bank and have it kept there, as it’s a good base of stem cells and they could use that later on.
JUSTIN: Wow, that is just so amazing. It’s so amazing with science what they’ll be able to do. I want to talk a little bit more about the teeth and maybe your summit as well. We have to take a quick break here for a minute and run an ad, but when we get back, I’d like to talk with you more about the teeth and oral care.
We are with Nadine Artemis from livinglibations.com and we’ll be right back after this message.
KATE: Hi, this is Kate and thanks for listening. I want to tell you about this product called Heal Your Face by Markus Rothkranz and you can find it at extremehealthradio.com/wrinkes. It’s 204 pages in paperback or ebook. If you’re like me, you probably didn’t know that all of the areas of our face correspond to specific organs in our body, and you can stop spending hundreds of dollar per year covering up symptoms on the ageing face with creams and lotions, appointments and plastic surgery and things which just don’t work. Learning how to heal your organs from the inside out, your face is going to reflect that too. For $25 you can’t go wrong, if you’ve always wanted that beautiful skin and actually heal the cause of that, not just by using creams and wasting your money. You have to heal your organs and heal your face with 4000 years of Chinese medicine. The book tells you what organs are connected to certain parts of the body, and it gives you full color photos on what causes poor organ health, and most importantly, step-by-step instructions on what to do about it. The outer you is just a reflection of the inner you. You can find it at extremehealthradion.com/wrinkes.
JUSTIN: Okay, we are with Nadine Artemis from livinglibations.com and I wanted to stay on this tooth thing for just a few more minutes, if you don’t mind.
So, the teeth are connected, is each tooth connected to a specific organ? Is that kind of how the Chinese and the Germans have determined that?
NADINE: Yes, each tooth is connected to each of the organs and there are different charts you can do. I even have a chart in my book and I have it up on our facebook page, For Successful Self Dentistry, so you can map that out. You don’t always have to get into the specifics and you can just know that the teeth are connected to every signal organ and gland in the body via the bloodstream. So, any infection that the mouth harbors, effects our health. With root canals, Dr. Hal Huggins and Dr. Stuart Nannally have an article coming out in the Molecular Journal of Medicine, I think this month. They took about 80 root canals and they were perfect root canals. The person wasn’t experiencing any pain and they were like text book perfect. They sent those to the lab and they suspected that each root canal was harboring a lot of bacteria. 50% of those were harboring severe forms of bacteria, like ghastly necrotic bacteria.
They were finding old diseases in there too, like leprosy and really old gnarly diseases. They both believed that it was things like root canals in our mouth. If you are experiencing a devastated immune system, if you have MS or some other autoimmune thing, like rheumatoid arthritis. All those ones that you know, you can’t get out of bed, and the doctors don’t know what’s going on with you, those kind of things, they are really connected to root canals. Dr. Hal Huggins mentioned that 99% of women that have breast cancer, have also had a root canal in that same side of their body.
JUSTIN: For those who don’t know Dr. Stuart Nannally, I think his website is healthysmilesforlife.com and Dr. Huggins is hugginsappliedhealing.com. Yes, I’ve heard of those studies as well, and it almost shocks you, I think there’s a doctor in Equador, Dr. Bob Dowling, who was making those connections. I was hearing from Dr. Bob Dowling and he claims that all cancers are caused by root canals and oral pathology. Regardless if he’s right or wrong, it’s still pretty fascinating. You would never hear in mainstream media, if you have cancer, look at your teeth, would you?
NADINE: Oh no, never. And then we haven’t even really brought up extractions. Any site where there has been an extraction, like a wisdom tooth, the periodontal ligament is left in there and the gum heals up over that. That akin to leaving the placenta in the body after somebody has given birth. That rots under the gum line and creates what is know as cavitation in the jaw line. These don’t always show up in x-rays. That is another area where you’re going harbor infection and disease, as the blood can’t get in there and circulate. So, Dr. Hal Huggins feels very strongly about this and he has been studying people’s blood for 40 years, so he is seeing the effects of when people remove these things or get them cleared up, and how their immune system returns.
JUSTIN: Wow, do you personally have any cavitations or wisdom teeth removal from back when you were younger?
NADINE: I have no root canals and I had my mercury fillings removed when I was 20, because that is how long I’ve been looking into dentistry. It didn’t take me too long, as soon as I understood about mercury, I was like I’ve got to get that out of my body. I have had three wisdom teeth removed and I haven’t checked them yet, but I definitely will at some point, when I find that I need to go to a dentist I’ll have them checked out. And, they don’t show up on an x-ray, so what can simply be done? There is a tiny incision that is made in the gum line and then if the instrument falls through and is sinking into the jaw bone, then they know there is a cavitation there, and that can be cleaned out and removed and then the gum heals back over that. So, that is not too complicated of a procedure. You definitely want to be going to a biological dentist, who has been trained in the proper protocol for these things. And, if you do bring up cavitations to your regular dentist, they’ll definitely be looking at your cross-eyed.
JUSTIN: Yes, I’ve done that and it doesn’t work. I actually, a long time ago, before I knew anything about health,
drove down to Mexico from Southern California, because it was cheap, and had a root canal done there. I still have it, so I have to get that thing taken care of.
NADINE: That’s so cool though, that you went to see Dr. Nannally in Texas.
JUSTIN: Yes, he’s a great guy. I highly recommend him as he’s really good. So, he was part of the summit that you did?
NADINE: Yes, he was part of our interviews and that’s coming out at the end of November. It’s totally free and I found him to be a really compassionate and wise man. He has an interesting story too, as he had thought himself a holistic dentist, so he had been removing mercury for people for about two decades. And then he found himself with mercury poisoning, so much so that stepping up onto a curb was a challenge and he couldn’t do it. He was about to actually give up dentistry and someone suggested that he call Hal Huggins and follow Hal Huggins protocol. Hal said to him, ‘do you have any cavitations and you have to remove those first, and I’ll meet you at my clinic in Montreal’. He did the protocol and he did a lot of saunas to remove the mercury. It was a slow process over 2-3 years, and now, of course, he is practising dentistry and is deeper than holistic. He’s a biological revisionist dentist. And, he runs triathlons.
JUSTIN: Wow, and he couldn’t even walk at one point?
NADINE: Yes, it’s pretty amazing. It’s interesting too, I mean I wonder how many dentists are functioning with a lot of mercury toxicity. It’s actually, I forget who in the summit was saying, it’s a profession with a lot of divorce rates, a lot of suicides. It’s just interesting, becausing they’re dealing with a lot of chemicals and a lot of bacteria.
JUSTIN: It might be similar to being an airline pilot, where you do good for 65 years and then it all comes crashing down at the end, you know. So, I was on your website actually, and I have to ask you about this product that looks really interesting. It’s called ‘The Salt Inhaler’ and I was looking at your video on that and what a cool thing to have while you’re traveling. Can you talk a little bit about that Salt Inhaler.
NADINE: Yes, it is awesome. I heard of them, so I got one. They’re out there and they’re called Salt Pipes, Salt Inhalers and they’re interesting. They have salt in them and then you are to inhale the salt to speak. You don’t get salt in you, but you’re inhaling the fumes of it, and it clears up breathing disorders and asthma. However, it was interesting, but it really doesn’t come alive until you add those essential oils to the salt. Then, it’s amazing and it takes you to a whole new world. I had the opportunity to try it on the plane too, and I just loved it. You just put your mouth around it and put essential oils in the bottom. It doesn’t take much, about 8-10 drops and that will last for about two weeks in its potency. You could also do one nostril breathing while you’re putting that up to your nose and covering it. We have a video on that. And you just feel the depths of your body and your brain because you can feel those essential oil molecules traveling all throughout the sinuses or deep into your belly. Essential oils, they are all antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral. They clear and kill airborne bacteria. So, to have that kind of tool with you while you’re traveling, or visiting somebody in the hospital, or just watching a film at home and you want to give your system a boost, or you actually are having allergies and asthma issues, or a cold, it is a wonderful tool. We are so happy to have them and a formula from awesome blends to go with them.
JUSTIN: That is so great. I go to Australia from time to time. Last time I was there, about 3-4 years ago, I got so sick from that flight and this thing would be a great thing. Do you keep the salt in there indefinitely, or do you refill the salt and all of that?
NADINE: Yes, you can refill the salt, they say about once or twice a year and it’s very low maintenance. Then you just keep topping up the essential oils, which just adds such an amazing dimension to the experience.
JUSTIN: Essential oils, is the idea behind essential oils opposite to homeopathy, where it’s very concentrated. Is that the idea behind essential oils?
NADINE: In essence so to speak, because the homeopathic remedy is a dilution and that goes into like 100% and 1000% dilution. Essential oils are so concentrated and pungent that they are 100-1000 times more concentrated than the plant matter. What I also find completely fascinating about essential oils is that they also work with the senses. I love homeopathy, but what you get with essential oils is this other dimension with smell and your scent and these molecules, which, you know, it’s been like a kind of hallmark gift thing of potpourri. You can go into that realm and be like, oh, that like a girl thing. However, if they’re real and genuine authentic distillations, they are an extremely potent medicine. They work with molecules on a molecular level, so when you inhale them, you’re sending those molecules into your hypothalamus and that’s communicating with the rest of your body. It’s going into your lungs, it’s going into your blood vessels. When you apply it transdermally to the skin, it’s doing the same thing. So, it’s communicating with your body. It inhibits viruses from repeating themselves in the cell receptor sites. Because they’re working on that aroma level, they’re able to work with the limbic brain and the hypothalamus, so they’re able to also effect memory, moods and emotions, so there’s a physiological aspect, and then there’s also this more real and tangible emotional aspect as well.
JUSTIN: Wow, it’s amazing how little you need, because at your Women’s Wellness Conference you were talking about using just a drop of something. In a drop, if you have roses, how many rose petals or rose buds would be in a drop?
NADINE: The steam distilled roses has over 80 rose heads make one drop of oil and over 500 bio active substances.
JUSTIN: That’s amazing. How do they do that?
NADINE: It’s an amazing process that was developed thousands of years ago and we have really improved on it since then, as it’s sort of in its perfection, in ancient Egyptian countries like Pakistan and in Turkey they were working with distilling essences thousands of years ago.
JUSTIN: At the Women’s Wellness Conference you were talking about cleaning out your cabinet in your bathroom and replacing them with more natural things. What are some of the problems that you see with things like colognes and perfumes and deodorants that people use? If they’re not really getting good stuff, what are some of the issues that could arise out of using those kinds of products?
NADINE: So many, it’s amazing. I think something even like perfume/cologne fragrance, the amazing thing is that way back in the day, thousands of years ago, it was created to purify the spirit and purify people and was used as medicine. So, if people had colds, illnesses or viruses, they would use perfume to clear that out. That’s because these substances in their real form are good for the immune system. They are anti-fungal, anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory. What you have going on now with commercial department store perfumes and colognes is detriment to the immune system. They contain petroleum and the word fragrance on a cream, the fragrance is on the label, but it’s part of a cream or shampoo or whatever, that one word fragrance, that one ingredient can contain up to 1000 ingredients that are not listed on the label.
JUSTIN: And there’s no legal ramifications or pressure to label those things?
NADINE: It’s like the food industry. You can get a can of soup and if there’s cheese in it, they don’t list the ingredients of the cheese. You know what I mean, processed food. There’s the one ingredient but you don’t get the secondary ingredient. I’ll send you an article I just did on cosmetic codes and the ingredients we can live without. A lot of them are fairly common, like I think the people that are listening to your show, would know about sulphates, paraben, sodium benzoate, Peg FDNC colors, alcohol and all that kind of stuff. And paraben for example, they don’t say it causes cancer, but it is showing up in I think somewhere between 90% and even 100% of all breast tissue samples from people who have breast cancer.
I mentioned sodium benzoate for example, that could be right at the end of something that’s more natural, because you know at the health food store you will have that whole row of pseudo natural products. That’s an interesting one, because it’s added to prevent products from spoiling, but interestingly, when it’s mixed with vitamin-C, the vitamin-C in your body or perhaps even ascorbic acid in a product, when it’s mixed with sodium benzoate you actually get a known carcinogen in your body, you’re kind of making it in your own body. We also have to really know when we see our skin. It’s like our teeth in a way, we have a bit of a disconnection, because I think we can see and feel the skin and we think it’s like tough or something, but it’s a great way of absorbing things. What we absorb through the skin, we absorb more than eating. So, putting on your toxic cream is more detrimental than eating it, because with eating things, you have the kidneys, the liver, the digestive enzymes, the saliva and the whole digestive process to break it down. But, it goes right into the blood stream from the skin.
That’s a great thing. If you want to use iodine on your skin, or essential oils that can boost your immune system, but when you’re using chemicals, you’ve got to know that you’re drinking them up. The other interesting thing about a lot of natural products that are manufactured, is that you’ll see things that look so great on the label, like ‘organic cleanser extract’,’green tea extract’,’wheat protein extract’ or ‘edelweiss extract’. What’s going on with that and what is not listed and how they’re purchased as a raw material to manufacture, is that they include glycerin, preserved with calcium sorbate and sodium benzoate, and that is not on the label.
JUSTIN: Wow, it’s really a matter of if people are going to buy those kinds of products, they have to really look into these things and figure out what natural flavoring is.
NADINE: Yes, really what things mean. I think we also have to know, I think in this day and age, and yes we can buy food and cosmetics at the health food store, but if we are buying like a loaf of bread at the health food store, or prepared food, even though the label reads okay, we have to know who the manufacturer is and there’s probably stuff going on we don’t know about. Even learning that like all those products, we find out that they’re owned by major GMO companies, and you can find out that Toms Of Maine is owned by Chlorax or Colgate, I can’t remember so don’t quote me on that. You’ll find that a lot of these smaller companies, like Burt’s Bees, or what you think is a small company, is now owned by huge multi-national pharmaceutical companies.
JUSTIN: I think it’s so important to look at labels and to really understand. I think it comes down to making distinctions. You were talking about earlier how you didn’t want to eat meat, because of the factory farming,
but then, when you start looking into it, you start realizing there’s healthy ethically raised meat and then there’s grass fed. You can even go further, like are they watering the grass with ocean minerals. So, making blanket statements about some of these things, I think that’s kind of what you’re saying, like looking deeper into these things.
NADINE: Yes, and know that normally, not every business, but there are huge businesses that you know there’s usually like a bottom line and there’s some kind of crazy profit margin that like when they’re not using the finest ingredients. They’re not putting rose otto at $20,000 per kilo in the product.
JUSTIN: It’s not going to happen, is it?
NADINE: It’s not happening! Synthetic rose oil is like $12,000 per kilo.
JUSTIN: We have to take a short break, but we’ll be right back. We’re with Nadine Artemis from livinglibations.com and we’ll have that link and the link to her facebook page, and all of that on this show page. We’ll be right back with Nadine Artemis.
I hope you’re enjoying the interview so far and getting a lot out of it. I just wanted to tell you really quickly about a program by Chris Kresser called The Healthy Baby Code. If you haven’t heard of Chris Kresser, he’s got a blog called chriskresser.com and he has put together an amazing course on how to have a healthy baby and how to avoid things like autism and childhood diseases. A lot of kids get leukemia these days and childhood diseases are rampant. If you’re looking to avoid all that and to have the healthiest baby possible, definitely check out The Healthy Baby Code. You can find it at extremehealthradio.com/babycode. It comes with about 5-1/2 hours of video presentations and audio presentations so that you can download into your ipod. It has hundreds of pages of resource materials, an e-book and bonus files. You get all kinds of things like chi chi meal plans, how to breast feed, how long to breast feed, as well as natural birthing. It has the whole thing covered from A-Z in this course. So, I highly recommend, if you’re looking to get pregnant or if you already are pregnant, you have to check this out. It’s The Healthy Code by Chris Kresser. Again, you can find it at extremehealthradio.com/babycode.
Okay, we’re with Nadine Artemis from Living Libations. Nadine, I wanted to read something to you. I had a pdf on our website from Holder Clark and it’s called New Concepts. At the bottom of that pdf file, there is something where she talks about seven essential oils to kill tape worms. I wanted to read this to you to see what your thoughts are on this. She says, ‘seven essential oils to kill tape worms, sage, thyme, cardamom, coriander, caraway seed, fennel and all spice. She said, put two drops of each oil into an empty capsule, swallow immediately and take twice daily for three days. Watch for the tape work to exit with a bowel movement. Use a synchrometer for this, testing colon and bile ducts several times or more. For people over 200 lbs use three drops of each oil, three times a day, for three days.
Have you ever used essential oils and what do you think about this to get rid of tape worms, and what do you think about those essential oils?
NADINE: I’ve actually made that for a few people and they said it has worked. Patrick Timpone even did it to himself and had success with it. I think it’s a great formula. Again, all essential oils are anti-fungal and anti-bacterial and anti-viral, those in particular, especially the ones that we know has cardamom and digestive ones that we would use in food prep, like the ones you mentioned, sage, thyme, cardamom, caraway etc.
Those kind of oils are really potent, like anti-parasitical. I haven’t even included all the ‘antis’ in the oils, but they are definitely potent. What I would do with that, is I would make up a blend of those oils in equal parts in a 5 ml bottle, or actually in a 10 ml bottle and add 50% essential oils and 50% of a beautiful organic olive oil, and then in your capsule actually do four drops. You can use an anti-capsule, or if you have a great herb that you love, you can just open that up, pop in the four drops, put the cap back on the capsule and do it that way.
The reason why you’re putting it in a capsule is that you can get those essential oils deeper into the intestines, other than just doing it sublingually, and that sends it deeper in.
JUSTIN: That’s pretty amazing. I would like to try that one day. I have never tried it. If someone wanted to buy those oils, do you sell them individually, or can you make them up for people? How does that work?
NADINE: I sell them individually so that people can do it on their own. I have made it up before too, but we don’t have that listing on our site.
JUSTIN: A lot of times when you go to the store to get essential oils, could there be problems, like things that are in the product that are not labeled, or things that aren’t in the product when they say they are? Are there issues with buying essential oils?
NADINE: Yes, there’s a lot of weird things that go on with the essential oil industry, because sometimes they want to make it cheaper. They’ll pick out a component, like citronella, which is found in many different types of oil, like lemon grass, and then isolate that and make it into something, or menthol is an isolate of the actual essential oil peppermint. So, there’s a lot of adulteration, dilution and fiddling around in labs. So there’s that and there’s the quality of soil, the growing, the picking and the distilling. I’ve been working with distillers around the world, ones that I have personally hand-selected for 20 years, and there are more artisan distillers that are wild-crafting or doing organic growing. There’s 4th and 5th generation distillers. Some essential oils are contract distilled, some essential oils I have to reserve two years in advance, so there’s that kind of thing going on.
Then, you can also have an essential oil and just buy ingredients from a food and flavor warehouse in New Jersey a,d just bring in the barrels and put it into 5 ml bottles. There’s a lot of things on quality. You can read about that on cropwatch.org. Lots of great things on the ethical and quality side of it. You definitely want genuine and authentic essential oils. Essential oils will say ‘do not use internally’, so there’s a lot of stuff that goes on, and of course they say ‘don’t take internally’ because they are regulated more as a cosmetic ingredient, which is actually fine. Then, there are a lot of issues going on with herbs and that whole industry, and patents. I think it’s fine to leave it in the cosmetic realm, but also know that the majority of the world’s essential oils are produced for the food flavoring industry, so they use them to flavor cigarettes and liquors and all that kind of stuff.
If you want to use essential oils internally, use a drop at a time and you’re going to be diluting it with something like honey or an oil, and then there’s ways of capsulating it. There’s also ways to use it as suppositories, so really there’s a whole art to it and you have to be sure of the quality. My friend, Dr. Kurt Schnaubelt, has a couple of books, actually three really great ones, ‘Plant Intelligence of Essential Oils’, ‘Medical Aroma Therapy’ and ‘Advanced Aroma Therapy’. Those are all excellent books that really map out recipes, dosages and percentages for internal use.
JUSTIN: Wow, that’s fascinating. I wanted to ask you too, on some of the protocols you do for your face, do you do make ups and traditional stuff or do you kind of make your own? What kind of products do you use on your face on a daily basis?
NADINE: Well, I’ve been … on skin care for over 20 years and I use all of my own things. We make everything you want for the body, from shaving cream, not that I use that on my face, to deodorant, we have a whole oral care range, to perfumes. I go really deeply into it, as I feel that once people discover Living Libations, they kind of not want to go anywhere else. They’ve really committed to making sure that we’ve covered every aspect of the body. We have a lot of options, because there is a lot of creativity here, but you can really keep it simple. We have one product called Seabuckthorn Best Skin Ever that many women can use and children can use. You use it on your body, you use it for cleansing your face, washing your face and moisturizing. So, you can really just narrow it down to one bottle, and that’s what a lot of people do.
It’s time to bring back simplicity. We don’t need 50 flavors of shampoo. There is a lot of hype about skin types, which is pretty much the creation of capitalism. You know, you don’t want to have oily skin and dry skin, you want to bring all of your skin into balance. That’s the premises that we work with, and it’s really a whole apothecary here into the banquet of beautiful things, from creams to lotions. There’s such a sensuality and a beauty that the botanicals offer and we just love making really the best that we can do and the best things that we can make, taking care of the skin. When you see that it’s the right thing and not seeing toxic things, your skin can improve so much.
JUSTIN: I know you have something that is called Poetic Pits for your armpits. What’s up with everyone smelling armpits? Is it a result of their diet or what’s going on with some people having really bad BO and some people sweat and it doesn’t smell that bad?
NADINE: I think it’s a lot of things. It definitely has to do with what’s going on internally, the type of clothing we’re wearing, if we we’re wearing synthetic fibers. And also, our armpits really haven’t seen a lot of sunshine lately. That’s a great thing too. If you’re out in the sun, let your armpits have some sunlight. It’s very anti-bacterial and anti-fungal and then you know, a lot of people use our products because they may have to, so to speak, but also because it actually just enhances the way the beautiful formulas, which are actually, we call it a deodorant, but it’s really not even comparable to anything that has been made before. It’s really simple blends made with sandalwood as a base, and there is nothing diluting it, and other essential oils to accent and give other flavors, so to speak. They are also anti-bacterial and they intermingle with your own aroma, and people find that they not only work and smell good, but people, you know, kind of follow them. It’s kind of like ‘pied piper’ for your pits! After yoga, people say, oh my gosh, what are you wearing? It smells so goo.
JUSTIN: So, how long would a bottle of that last, if you apply it a couple of times a day?
NADINE: You only really need one stroke until your next shower, and then you don’t even need to do it a couple of times a day. Some people also put it on other parts of their body. A small bottle will last, it depends on the person, from 3-9 months, depending on who you are and how you use it.
JUSTIN: That is so great and so cost effective. I got an email, knowing that you were going to be on, and I won’t read the whole thing as it’s pretty long, but she wanted to know about stretch marks. She is asking ‘what are some ways to minimize stretch marks’. She is newly pregnant and doesn’t want to get stretch marks. So, what kind of things can she do for that.
NADINE: As I mentioned, Seabuckthorn Best Skin Ever, which is really the one bottle that can do everything. It’s amazing for stretch marks and nobody who has used it has ever gotten a stretch mark.
JUSTIN: Really. what kind of things would you do about diet and stretch marks? Would you put anything else on your skin too? I’ve heard David Wolfe talk about cacao butter and things like that. I’m not sure how effective that is.
NADINE: Cacao butter is okay, but I think you need the other potent essential oils, like Seabuckthorn, because the essential oil is going to really help with the skin. One woman did one breast and not the other one, because she got stretch marks on one breast. You can make up your own blend, but you need more than just a lubricant, which is what the cacao butter would be. It would certainly be better than nothing.
Then dietary. This would be advice for any time of your life and that would be for a teen or a 60 year old. With diet, you really have to have never ever eat vegetable oils, processed rancid oils. That is so key. We can’t be eating deranged rancid fat, and the key thing for that is that the skin cells are made up exclusively of omega-6 and when we eat omega-6, which comes in the form of mazola, canola and soy, those are the vegetable oils. I’m not talking about seed oils, like chia, pumpkin and hemp, I’m talking about vegetable oils. When the body consumes those, then things happen, like wrinkles, stretch marks and cellulite. That would be the #1 anti-aging thing to avoid.
JUSTIN: Yes, it’s important for people to not eat those. I wanted to ask you too, I know we’re kind of running up against the clock here, but we have a couple more minutes. I wanted to ask you about neti pots and nebulizers and things like that. Can you use your essential oils in, probably not in neti pots, could you?
NADINE: No, it would be a bit strong for the mucous membrane, but you can use something like hydrosol which is a plant distillate so sometimes we get in a frankincense water, which is the hydrosol. It’s the water soluble component of the essential oil, leftover from the process of distillation, or rose water, which people might be familiar with. Otherwise, it would be too steamy.
For nebulizers, it would be great, but it would gum up the machine. So for that, you would also want to use the hydrosol. But that’s where the salt inhaler is your friend, because that way you can totally go fully with the essential oils.
JUSTIN: That is so great. Do you use your salt inhaler in place of a nebulizer?
NADINE: I do right now. I used the nebulizer for a while and used the minerals with that, but I find that the salt inhaler is really awesome for getting deep into the sinuses.
JUSTIIN: Fascinating. It’s so cool to be able to put one drop of something in and you’re really getting it into your lungs and deep into your tissues, aren’t you?
NADINE: Yes, and it’s better than smelling it from a bottle. Just give me one second.
JUSTIN: No problem. As we’re wrapping up, I know you have to get going, but I know you talked about the summit that you’re doing. In what direction are you headed with your Living Libations and some of your products or plans for the future?
NADINE: Well, we’re always creating more fun innovative things, and I don’t know how it all happens, but we’ve got three new pastes coming out. We just made a frankincense toothpaste, which is phenomenol. We’re gonna be making a neem enamelizer we’re going to be making that into a toothpaste. We have a new ozonated gel and we also have a clay paste coming up. I’m always scouring the earth to find new and beautiful accents to turn into perfumes. I’m always going that way. On a home scale, we’re really deeply working on our edible forest garden, which is going to be like a lifelong project.
JUSTIN: Just fascinating. Nadine, would you mind holding on for just a moment while I close out the show.
